How does it all work?

Users

What is MUZIKO?
MUZIKO is an online production music library which licenses downloadable music to clients (Users) for use in TV, radio, advertising, film and other media. Much of this library music has been specially composed and acquired by MUZIKO for this kind of use making it easy for clients to license the tracks.

How can I license on MUZIKO?
Simply browse through our range of production tracks and pick something suitable for your project. Then proceed to the checkout area and decide on the region that your media will play in and what level of audience it will reach. Once this is done our system will calculate the price. Once you update your cart you can proceed to the checkout which directs you to PayPal where you can make the payment with either a credit card or credit from your PayPal account.

Are there usage restrictions for the music I license?
There are different types of licenses required for different uses. However, there should be a level of licensing to suit all of your requirements. For more information on licensing and pricing, please visit the pricing area.

Are there any other hidden costs or charges?
Once you have purchased the correct license for your project there are no other charges. When a composer's work is used in a public domain, he/she is entitled to performance royalties. These royalties are collected by performance royalty collection societies, e.g. PRS, ASCAP. It is part of MUZIKO's role to supply these societies the broadcast and usage details in order for the composers to receive these royalties. Therefore we will make contact with the Users in order to gather the usage details. This information that Users supply us with should not result in any extra charges by MUZIKO or any third party to our Users.

Composers

How can I license my Music through MUZIKO?
Simply go to the register as composer section and fill out the required details. Once your email address has been verified you can start uploading your music immediately. MUZIKO receives a lot of submissions, therefore it could be some time before we get around to listening to your tracks. Our busy team is constantly checking out the latest music being uploaded.

What kind of deal is MUZIKO offering to composers?
We are accepting tracks on a non-exclusive basis which means that your music can also be placed with other libraries. Mechanical, or sync licenses, are shared 50/50 per cent between the composer and MUZIKO.
Regarding performance royalties, the split is also 50/50 per cent between the composer and MUZIKO. As a member of the PRS (UK), MUZIKO will register composers works with a MUZIKO tag. This will ensure that MUZIKO only receives royalties where the track was licensed from the MUZIKO library. The tracks will be registered in both the composer's name and MUZIKO's name so that the composer is paid performance royalties directly from the PRO. We always contact our clients in order to obtain the usage information on our tracks so that we can claim royalties for that usage.

Who can license my music?
Though our production tracks are available to anyone who wants to license them, we mainly market our service to the advertising, TV and film,  corporate video, and media industries. The composer retains the rights to their music, where MUZIKO enables composers to license their works through the website. Licenses are available to Users for all media applications. The price of a license is usually determined by the size of the audience who will be exposed to the particular track.

How do I get paid?
Payments are made by making a request in the user area. You must make the request by the end of the month and we will then aim to pay you within seven working days from the end of the month.

Audio Requirements

In what format do you require my music?

We are looking for well produced tracks in all styles and genres of at least one minute in duration and mainly instrumental, however, good vocal tracks may be accepted. Please make sure that the work is your own. Collaborations are also acceptable where your co-writer has agreed to placing tracks on Muziko and have provided details of this. Your tracks must contain no uncleared samples or plagiarizing of other artist's work. If there is an instance of this, you, the composer, will be liable for any consequences. For more information, please see our Composer Terms and Conditions which you can view and download at the point of uploading your tracks. If you are uploading for the first time, please only upload a maximum of three tracks.

Technical Summary:

mp3 Files
320 kbps - No other bit rate.
48 kHz or 44.1 kHz - No other sample rate.
File must NOT use Variable Bit Rate (VBR) - turn this option OFF when bouncing your track.

We require mp3 files at a bit rate of 320kbps ONLY. Sample rates should be at either 48kHz or 44.1kHz. A  short fade in and fade out should be placed at the end of each track to prevent any clipping. When creating your mp3 file please select constant bitrate option and do not fill out the mp3 tag. To prevent any clipping we suggest putting a limiter at -0.1dB on the final insert of master output. Tracks should not be heavily limited as clients will cut or boost the track as required. Once the main version of your track has been accepted we will then ask you to provide a 30 SECOND VERSION and a STING VERSION (LESS THAN 5 SECONDS). You may also upload an optional ALTERNATIVE VERSION. This is a rule with no exceptions.
